Doctrinal Statement of Weston Community Church
God
We believe in one God existing eternally in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
We believe in Jesus Christ, God the Son, who is the only begotten Son of the Father, who has existed eternally, but who, in time, came to be born of the virgin Mary and shared our humanity; fully God, fully human.
He was crucified, buried, was physically resurrected from the dead, and ascended to the right hand of God the Father, where he lives to make intercession for his people.
We believe he will come again in God the Father’s plan and time to receive his people to himself.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who is the agent of the new birth and is given to all of God’s people. He is the sanctifier of God’s people, the giver of gifts of grace for the purpose of building up the Church. The Holy Spirit gives witness to God the Son, Jesus Christ, and seeks to glorify him. We believe that all Christians have the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Human Dignity, Need, and Salvation
We believe all people are created in the image of God and are precious to God; that all people have great dignity because they bear the marks of their Creator.
We believe that in Adam and Eve’s turning away from God all people have been adversely affected, and so in time, turn away from God in their own lives.
We believe that there is an ever-present bent toward turning away from God in all people, in short, that all fall short of God’s glory. Nevertheless, we believe in the great dignity and value of every human life since God is the Creator of all people.
We believe that no person can save themselves, and that all people are in radical need of God’s initiative in salvation. We believe that salvation is completely through faith alone, received solely through the gift of God, accomplished and grounded in the finished work of Jesus Christ. In Jesus Christ alone, no other, is there salvation.
The Church
The Church is nothing less than all those followers and disciples of Jesus Christ, who have been saved by him wherever they may live and worship in the world. We call this worldwide group of people, The Church.
The Church is not only comprised of all living followers and disciples of Jesus Christ, but those who have passed from this life. Together, those living and those who have died in Jesus Christ comprise The Church.
The Church is comprised of individual Christian communities, individual churches, that are scattered throughout the world. All of these communities of followers and disciples of Jesus Christ are part of that larger body, The Church.
Judgment
We believe that all of human history is moving to a climax already set in motion by the physical resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God; that this goal is the making of heaven and earth anew. And that all of humanity will be accountable to God for judgment.
Those who are still living on the earth at that time, and those who have died (the latter being physically raised in like manner as Jesus of Nazareth), will stand before God for judgment. Those who have been saved and redeemed by the work of Jesus will continue in eternal life; those who have rejected God’s purpose for themselves, to eternal death.
The Bible
We believe the Bible to be the holy infallible inspired word of God written. As such, it is the rule of faith for God’s people.
